Green Smoothie

I was ecstatic when I found a beautiful mint plant growing in our backyard, I couldn’t wait to pick some and start using it.

For a few weeks now, my kids and I have picked some  mint leaves everyday, and made something with it – mostly homemade mint tea with lemon.  Being home with children is never boring, and so we were experimenting a bit.

Yesterday, we had smoothies on the weekly menu for lunch. We decided to try something new –  mint and avocado TOGETHER!!!

The combination was wonderful (at least to my liking!)  It was fresh and rich, and VERY healthy!

Here is the recipe:

  • 1 Banana
  • 1/2 of a ripe Avocado (if you like avocados as much as I do, I’d throw a whole one in … pitted of course)
  • 1 tbsp of ground flaxseed
  • 1 tsp of fish oil ( I use NutraSea omega-3 oil)
  • 3-4 chopped mint leaves
  • A ‘good’ scoop of lime sorbet
  • 1 cup Almond milk

Mix all of these ingredients in a blender until smooth. I have a magic bullet and it worked just fine. Add a mint leaf on top for decoration and enjoy the goodness!

This was a wonderful drink full of energy for the family.  If you take out the sorbet, and lessen the almond milk, you will have great baby food for your little one. My new one year old backs that up!

Have a healthy day!
