A bucket filler you ask, what is that?
Well, it’s someone who spreads kindness, joy, love, help, encouragement and happiness to others around them.
As a homeschool mom, I’m always looking for different ways to spruce up our school walls, or make new ‘bulletin boards’. I saw this wonderful book by Carol McCloud called HAVE YOU FILLED A BUCKET TODAY? So off to the library we went to get it.
We decided to stay put on this topic for a few months, and so, we created a ‘bucket wall’.
The book focuses on simply filling other peoples (invisible) buckets with happiness, kindness and encouragement. Everyone has an invisible bucket – when we do kind or helpful things for others, their bucket becomes full. When we do the opposite or hurt others, we ‘dip’ into or spill their bucket.
1 John 4 :11 says ‘ Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.’
We made charts, diagrams and games as to HOW we can show love to one another. It’s been great to see be creative and have fun doing so.
If a child has had a rough day, or done something wrong, I have been able to ask them “were you a bucket filler ….. or a bucket dipper?”. Let’s just say, they are getting the concept.
Have fun! Be creative! Be a bucket filler family.

This is wonderful! I’m interested in knowing what you’ve put on the wall? What did you put into the paper bags hanging on the wall? I’d love to do this in my home daycare! Thanks for sharing!!!
