Sometimes your past creeps in your mind, and somewhat haunts you.
Times when we are moving forward, doing well, and excited about the track we’re on.
And out of the blue we are reminded of the ugly, wrong things we did in our past.
On one of the beautiful spring days last week, as the sun glistened through our window, I listened to my sons giggling and playing. I watched my lovely daughters do their work and help each other. My husband had just kissed me goodbye.
I felt so blessed.
I felt so at peace.
Those awful lies all of a sudden crept in. “You don’t deserve this!”. “You shouldn’t be enjoying them”. “All those rotten things you’ve done – what if it’s passed on to your kids?”. “Your future shouldn’t be as you have dreamt it”.
Or…… it’s the opposite. You are having an awful day. The children are acting up, the house is in chaos, or you’ve just heard some bad news. At these weak times, when you are vulnerable, those same sneaky lies can come in like a flood…….. “Your children won’t amount to anything”. “You can’t take care of a family and a home”. “Your life will always be filled with bad news!”.
Horrible heaviness sets in. And for a moment, there is complete condemnation.
Because there is something so incredible as the word of God, we can be reminded of a few things. Things that we should ALL know, when lies like that creep in.
The Lord will rescue his servants;
no one who takes refuge in him will be condemned. Psalm 34:22
“Do not be afraid; you will not be put to shame.
Do not fear disgrace; you will not be humiliated.
You will forget the shame of your youth
and remember no more the reproach of your widowhood.
5 For your Maker is your husband—
the Lord Almighty is his name—
the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer;
he is called the God of all the earth. Isaiah 54:4,5
It’s true, we DON”T deserve these things, and we are NOT worthy of the life we have, but that doesn’t mean that we should live in condemnation, and therefore hinder our future!. For God has a great and mighty plan and future for each one of us! (Jer 29:11).
So, whether you are a mom, dad, or grandparent, choose to speak life!! Choose to stand on, and believe the One who doesn’t condemn, but gives us promises for a hope and a future.
Parents; condemnation can slip in so easily for us …… let’s show our little ones who we get our strength from, and who has set us free.
Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us. Romans 8:34
